Laughter Yoga is a simple, yet profound technique based on the philosophy of "acting happiness”. It is a physically-oriented exercise routine, not a mental process; therefore, anyone can laugh without using jokes, humor or comedy. Laughter Yoga follows a series of simple, yet structured laughter and yogic breathing techniques, combined with simple stretching. These exercises bring more oxygen to the body, thus improving health, as well as happiness.
The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on the scientific fact that whether laughter is fake or real, the body cannot tell the difference and the benefits will be the same. Laughter Yoga effectively decreases stress, strengthens the immune system, increases endorphins, the "feel good" chemicals in the brain, decreases and controls blood pressure, decreases heart rate and fights depression.
Laughter Yoga was developed by Madan Kataria, a physician from India, with just five people on March 13, 1995 and is now sweeping the glove, with more than 6000 laughter clubs in more than 65 countries.
